ART COLOGNE 2010

I apologize for this late post. My thoughts on ART COLOGNE. Standout galleries were Peres Projects and Broadway 1602(Shana Moulton’s work provides a journey of sounds, stretches, and robust immersion). Both galleries provide work with depth and variety. This was my first experience attending this fair and I was a bit tweaked to see the art folk smoking in their booths! Gallerists who are often melancholic were cheerful and ready to sell sell sell. I’ve never been greeted by so many smiling people it was rather frightening at first.

Off to the London Biennale….

Miguel Abreu Gallery/Inseparability vs. Simultaneity

Complex show which highlights a new narrative by Jimmy Raskin. Raskin's work always seems to have a unsurpassed fluidity. This work does not disappoint. "The stimulant for this exhibition is the brief, yet potent poem, Vowels, by Arthur Rimbaud." The poem is filtered throughout the work. Expression, flow, knots, connection are all embodied.

Take the time to see this powerful work. Come on a weekday when the space is yours to experience slowly and meticiously.

Gallery Hanahou/20/10 Vision

I don't know why but I can't stop visiting group shows. People are a buzz about this gallery. This show of more than 40 artists has a bit of positivity for everyone(which of course is the theme of this show). Superdeux, Marcus Oakley, and teammacho are standouts.

Hats off to this gallery! they recently posted this on their site regarding tragedy that struck Haiti. Stop by and pick up a great piece of work and support the relief efforts in Haiti.
**UPDATE**
- In light of the recent tragedy that befell the people of Haiti, gallery hanahou and the artists who are participating in "20/10 VISION" have decided to contribute 20% of all proceeds from this exhibition to disaster relief efforts in Haiti.

Proof Gallery/Boston Does Boston III

What to say about this show? Gallery is a hidden gem located in South Boston, it is known for putting on cutting edge shows. Like the recent show at Zach Feur I wasn't quite sure why this group of artists was brought together. Highlights were Fredo Conde and Jess Wheelock. Fredo's most recent foray into the NY scene was at Exit Art. His theme of commercialism has also flowed into intuitive communication. I was immensely tempted to touch his pieces(I was not the only one).

I also enjoyed Jess Wheelock's work which was entertaining as its meant to be.

Zach Feuer Gallery/Jr. & Son's

Jr. & Son's.
Color, color, and more color. Color has been missing in recent shows in the NY scene. But not here. It is brimming with explosive color. Its a diverse hodge podge of artists, not quite sure it makes sense. S. Clay Wilson's "
Marooned Pirate Gets a Piece of Tail for Lunch" is tongue in cheek delightful. Not much risk going on but a pleasant distraction.
